Gt Bromley v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) on Sat 29 Apr 2023 at 12.30pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs
Match report
Joe young was captain and won the toss and decided to field on a soft outfield due to rain yet again on Thursday and Friday. Ethan Wyatt got an early break through with the score on 7, but then Michael Griffin started to hit a few shots and when he was 3rd player out he had scored 35 out of the 55 runs scored. In fact he was Bromley's only player to make double figures, as they slipped from 52 for 1 to 70 all out. Calum McDonald 3 for 16 and Matt Norris 2 for 12 bowled tight spells, but the real turning point came when Joe Young brought himself on and got the ball to turn a lot taking 4 for 5. We spoke at the interval saying that with the outfield being so slow that this was probably a score of a 100 on a normal outfield. We also said that they would probably open with a spinner from the end that Joe Young got the ball to turn sharply.
Sure enough Great Bromley did open with a spinner called Ankush Jagota from the end Joe Young had bowled from and pace from the other end by Ed Fairley. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals and when 11th man Duncan Wyatt came to the wicket Eight Ash Green were 22 for 9 in the 20th over, with both opening bowlers still on who bowled their 12 overs straight through with a Jagota taking 5 for 7 and Fairley 4 for 20. Calum McDonald and Duncan Wyatt battled hard picking up ones and twos and were edging the score closer to the required winning score, but after a stand of 36 for the last wicket Calum McDonald was bowled by a ball that spun between bat and pad to loose by 12 runs.
