Earls Colne v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) on Sun 04 Sep 2011 at 12.30pm
Match was Abandoned after 41 overs due to rain
Match report
Eight Ash Green were heading for a competitive total against Earls Colne on Sunday before rain halted their innings.
The green were 172-4 after 41 overs before the weather set in and forced the sides off the pitch.
EAG had started brightly with openers Tim Chambers and Richard Polley batting steadily through, Chambers accelerating first scoring mostly in boundaries. Polley played a supporting role to Tim’s quick scoring but both stood their ground to prevent an Earls Colne breakthrough.
The run rate started slowly, evening out to a consistent rate for no loss. Earls Colne changed their attack frequently in search of the elusive wicket but Chambers and Polley battled through. Chambers reaching fifty first in 78 balls, Polley eventually ‘flicked the switch’ and scored 2 4’s and a 6 in consecutive balls to add to his score.
It was not until the 34th over and another two changes to the bowling attack that Earls Colne got a breakthrough. Having reached his fifty two overs earlier in 89 balls, Polley skied a shot that sent the wicket keep sprinting in its wake, and held on to dismiss.
Tom Aston and Richard Nunn both fell victim to LBW appeals after a short time at the crease leaving Nathan Taylor to come in at number 5 and partner Chambers. He got off the mark quickly, his innings including a massive straight six over long on. With rain beginning to fall, Tim Chambers reached 90 (off 130 balls, scoring 10 4’s and 1 6) and then lofted a shot towards a fielder in the deep. His departure signalled the end of the innings as the rain got heavier.
