Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 84 runs

Match report Despite one or two dramas along the way, such as the skipper failing to trouble the scorers, the Green ran out comfortable 84 run winners over Coggeshall on our latest Sunday afternoon outing.
Coggy invited us to bat and probably had visions of chasing less than 3 figures when we slumped to 66-6. Joe Young had made 24 and we had reached 40-1 before he generously offered the slips some catching practice. The batting collapse included the comical dismissal of Ollie Stovell for a duck as he failed to see that the ball that bounced off of his thigh pad and landed a good yard in front of him was then slowly spinning back towards the stumps to dislodge the bails. Now this is the second time in a week or so that he has suffered such a fate - rather careless I'd say; I think we need a coaching session on covering your stumps. We were rescued first by James Plummer (38), who is beginning to make a habit of scoring runs, as he shared a 51 run partnership with Ethan Wyatt, then by Troy Collins (38), who added 56 for the last wicket with Matt Murray (19*). Neither of our top scorers would generally be described as orthodox, so the entertainment value provided by their batting efforts was high. From the sidelines we had postulated that 120-130 could be competitive, so to close on 192 was to have riches indeed.
For Coggeshall, several players made a start, but none passed 20 as they were bowled out for 108. Troy (2-28) and Ethan (1-21) made early inroads before spin twins Matt (2-23) and Alex Hammond (3-12) tore the heart out of the visitor's batting line-up. With Connor Murphy (1-1) and James (1-0) coming on to complete the victory, the vast majority of the team can be happy that they were able to provide a positive contribution today, so well done all.
