Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Worlington II on Sat 16 May 2015 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 106 runs
Match report
On a tricky morning at the Green, Captain A Hammond returning from his absence last weekend lost the toss and the green were put into bat. Approaching this fixture the Green expected a strong Worlington side and were disappointed to learn that a number of players were either missing, at the football or just simply didn’t fancy it. None the less out went J Smith & S Nunn to open the batting.
On a wet track, soaked out field and with no pace on the ball what so ever, Smith and Nunn made a gritty and determined start to the innings before Nunn fell to a sharp catch in the slip corden. J Young next to the crease. After drinks J Smith and J Young started to pick up the pace of the innings. After drinks with J smith’s foot firmly on the accelerator he feel to a decent catch at mid-on. M Goodall was sent to the crease at number 4 to try and take the game to the bowlers. A couple of good overs from Young and unfortunately he fell to off spinner Du Plooy. Goodall was yet to score and was joined at the crease by A Hammond. Young showed signs of improvement in his quest to recapture last year’s good form.
With some good fortune and good striking, Goodall departed for quick fire 31 adding another 50 partnership with Hammond. Hammond then stuck around for the majority of the rest of the innings guiding the Green to 210 which was well worth 250 on a good day. A great performance from top to tail in testing conditions.
After Tea Goodall and Firmin took the new ball in beating sunshine and a pitch that with have dried out and a faster outfield. Goodall bowled well and tightly tieing down one end whilst Firmin wreaked havoc at the other. In success games Firmin had another 5 wicket hall.
Ukwatte and Aston and in tandem working well together cleaned up the tail with aplomb. Game set and match in a relatively straight forward victory for the green by 106 runs.
Solid performance and off we go to Kelvedon looking to make it 6/6.
