Match report An amazing game at the Green, EAG who were reduced to 9 players due to Covid dropouts across the club were kindly loaned a fielder by Ipswich as they fielded first on a warm afternoon. This very sporting gesture was much appreciated as a good wicket and fast outfield produced ideal batting conditions and Ipswich racked up 310 off their 45 overs, Matt Murray and Alex Hammond amongst the wickets.
Faced with his daunting task, the Green started at a lively tempo, Richard Polley was out in the 9th over with the score on 49, Matt Murray and Jack Axon maintained the tempo, Matt departing for a well made 54, this brought Torin Keyte to the wicket with the score on 142. The combination of Jack's precise placement and Torin's inventive and powerful stoke play made the massive target seem within reach and was achieved with an over to spare, an unbroken stand of 172. Jack's 93 not out was made up of 8 fours and was his second successive big score, Torin's 5 towering sixes was the highlight of his highest score for the Green.
A remarkable victory, thanks go to Ipswich for their generous gesture in loaning a fielder and the sporting way they reacted to defeat in a great game of cricket.
