Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Great Horkesley & Lexden on Sun 05 Sep 2021 at 12.30pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
For the last Sunday match of the season we were greeted with a warm and sunny afternoon. Eight Ash Green won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Ethan Wyatt and Tom Griffiths opened the bowling together for the first time in senior cricket. They had done this regularly over the last 3 years for the youth team. They contained Great Horkesley & Lexden to 43-1 from the first 12 overs. Ollie Licence bowling from a shorter run up and at a slower pace, but with a lot more control bowled 7 overs for only 20 runs as we contained the run rate. The slow bowling firstly of Richard Nunn with 2 wickets and then Luke Coppin and Jens Wair with 3 wickets each, meant we bowled out Great Horkesley & Lexden for 113 in the 37th over.
Eight Ash Green opened with father & son partnership of Duncan Wyatt & Ethan Wyatt who have been playing together in the same team for 4 years, but never batted together. So as it was the last match of the season it was decided that this was the day to guarantee they would bat together. A steady opening partnership of 25 got the team on their way and were looking well placed at 42-1, but then lost 5 wickets for 20 runs. Firstly Jens Wair and Craig Axon steadied things by putting on 26 for the 7th wicket and then Jens Wair and Ollie Licence put on 28 for the 8th wicket to win the match by 3 wickets. Jens Wair scored 36 not out to go along with his 3 wickets and 3 catches, one of which was a very good catch taken very low down running in from deep mid wicket, which earned him the man of the match award.
Really pleased how the season went on Sunday's and I have thoroughly enjoyed being captain of a great bunch of players.
Thanks to you all from Duncan.
