Litte Bardfield (PDQ Cup) v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club North Essex 1st XI (Sunday) on Sun 03 Aug 2008 at 2pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
Heavy rain at 1.30 delayed the start of the PDQ cup quarter final at Little Bardfield. After deliberation amongst the teams and the umpires and good work by the LB groundsman a 4.00pm start was scheduled for a 15 over match. Should super IPL fielder Tom be drafted in for the shorter form of the game?, after discussion it was decided to stick to the original 11. Steely and Ric bowled tight 3 over spells, but the large EAG away following were pining for Tom as steady eddie mis fielded to concede a boundary and asbo spilled an albeit difficult chance in the outfield. The game changed with Woodys three over spell, making the ball turn and lift on the damp surface he took 4 wickets (bowling three) for just 12 runs. LB's Dean Bass was the main threat and his innings ended on 49 as he touched a lifter from Keith Hammond and Danny took an excellent catch standing up. As LB tried to reach 100 they took on the Green fielders with some aggressive running, the Green responded running 4 batsmen out to follow on from Woodys runout of danger man Kemp with a direct hit in the second over.
Faced with a target of 95 in 15 overs, the Green steadily built their score in line with the rate required. Although three wickets were lost Keith Hammond batted solidly for 48 not out and victory was achieved on the first ball of the 15th.over, to the delight of the travelling EAG contingent, such is the magic of the PDQ Cup.
