Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 15 Runs

Match report First Sunday game of 2014 and of course...rain! On a very dank and dark day, the return of panel umpires to the Green was a welcome one, not least as it took the very tough decision of if the game were to go ahead away from the players. The decision was a slight delay in of the start time followed by a 30 overs per side match. Gt Horkesley & Lexden won the toss and put the mighty Green Machine into bat. On a damp wicket with a slow outfield it was tough going, wickets fell at regular intervals but steady innings from Jack Smith and Joe Young, with valuable contributions from Richard Nunn and Alex Hammond saw the Green up to 113 for 9 at the close with Jens Wair and Charlie Lovejoy batting through the last 3 overs to ensure we did not pass any unused overs to the opposition! Was the score slightly below par? Not with pace maestro Richard Nunn in the ranks! Some fast, full and straight bowling was to much for the oppositions top order, aided by some good fielding and solid work behind the stumps from Joe. Once Richard had set it up, Jens turned the screw removing the dangerous Maan aided by an excellent stumping from Joe. All the bowlers backed Richard up with 2 wickets from brother Steve and Jack knocking the number 11's sticks back to finish an excellent win for the Green! Credit must go the umpires for the fantastic display and decision making to get the game on, and to groundsman Kemsley for preparing a wicket that took a hammering from the sky's in the morning and still played extremely well! Up The Green!!!!!
