Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 263 Runs

Match report South champions faced East champions at Fordham Heath on Saturday as the Green faced Tendring looking to bounce back after a disappointing defeat last weekend. Batting first the Green lost Oli Firmin in the first over before Jack Smith and Alex Hammond steady the ship until Alex fell for 22. Jack brought up his first 50 of the season and was soon joined by Joe Young who recorded his maiden 50 for the Green eventually departing for a brilliant 68. Stephen Nunn made a quick fire 62 before the innings was finished in style with a typically aggressive 39 from skipper Kevin Smith. The Greens total of 285 looked to be match winning but one with conditions getting ever better for batting there would still plenty of work to do.

However remarkable spells of bowling from Oli Firmin (5-10) and Mark Goodall (3-4) completely blew the Tendring batting away as the Green bowled the East champions out for just 22. Matthew Pyatt getting the remaining two wickets. Tendring’s total was the lowest score EVER in division 7 of the Two Counties League. It was a fantastic, all round team performance against what on paper looked like a potential banana skin and once again showed that the Green will be challenging for promotion this year.
