Witham v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 06 May 2012 at 1PM
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 74 Runs
Match report
Eight Ash Green finally managed to start to the 2012 season, when despite light drizzle and rain the 1st XI managed to complete their first round Cup match at Witham, unfortunately they went down by 74 runs in a match shortened to 30 overs.
Bowling first the Green's opening bowlers Nippy and Richard N both took early wickets. An early introduction of spin from Jens and Tom saw Tom pick up 2 more wickets before Witham middle order batsmen Huggins and Hawes came together to put on 45 for the 5th wicket. Richard returned to bowl both batsmen, interspersed by Tom hitting the stumps from the boundary to run out Cook. Richard P took a catch off his own bowling, but Witham Captain Bellehewe and Barwood put on 30 in a frustrating unbroken 9th wicket stand to stretch the Witham total to 125-8.
When the Green openers Richard P and Tom walked out to bat the weather had deteriorated further making batting extremely difficult. As the outfield got steadily wetter, shots that would have scored boundaries on another day were only bringing singles today. Unfortunately the Witham total was never seriously threatened, with the Green losing wickets at regular intervals only Richard Polley made double figures, and the Green were bowled out for 51. However one highlight was the performance of the Lovejoy brothers, making their debut's for the senior teams, Ollie in particular showing great maturity and technique when batting.
