Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) v Kirby on Sun 25 Apr 2010 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 13 Runs
Match report
The 2nd XI got off to a winning start to the season by beating Kirby by 13 runs in a match reduced to 40 over’s due to the threatening weather conditions. Man of the match was Paul Marston for an unbeaten 121, but 15 year old Alex Enright with 4-28 and Stephen Nunn who bowled 5 consecutive maidens at the start of the Kirby innings also deserve special mention. However it was a good all round team effort, with everyone making a contribution.
Kirby won the toss and invited the Green to bat first in conditions that were ideal for seam bowling. Marsy batted the whole 40 over’s for his 121 which included 3 sixes, he was well supported by Colin Hammond 18 and Nick Murray 17 not out. The inning closed on a competitive 184 for 5.
Stephen Nunn and Alex Enright opened the bowling for the Green and with tight and accurate bowling built pressure on the opening batsman and led to James Belsham running out the Kirby Captain with an excellent direct hit. Alex picked up two wickets in his first spell before Nick Murray came on to take 3 wickets in the middle part of the inning, with Colin Hammond only conceding 19 runs from his 9 over’s. With Kirby starting to increase the run rate the opening bowlers came back in the final over’s and took two wickets each, one a brilliant catch on the boundary by Matt Murray. The Green bowled out Kirby in the last over to claim victory by 13 runs.
