Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Tom Lissimore's DJM's Select XI on Sun 07 Sep 2025 at 1.00pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs

Match report A good crowd gathered for the David Merriday & Boo Cant Memorial Match, who both passed away over the last few months after being long time members of the club during which time they applied themselves to many rolls.

Select Eleven Captain Tom Lissimore won the toss and decided to bat on a sunny afternoon.

The Select Eleven had a squad of 13 and would rotate the players when it came to fielding.

Eight Ash Green took 2 early wickets, but then current Eight Ash Green player Alex Hammond & Wivenhoe player Nathan Taylor put together a good partnership, with both of them retiring at 50.

Jamie Murray enjoyed himself hitting 3 sixes from Mark Howson with one going over the pavilion, but was then bowled by Henry Warner for his 2nd wicket. In the previous over Henry Warner was delighted to bowl former player Keith Hammond for 0, who some say is the best batsman the club have had.

The Select Eleven finished on 200 for 7 from their 30 overs.

Opener Connor Amos hit 3 fours in the 2nd over of the match, but was then out in the third over.

There was a bowling and batting match up with batsman James Woodcock and his mother Caroline Woodcock bowling with Caroline getting her son out LBW.

Eight Ash Green were behind the run out during their innings, with Oscar Spence being the main stay of the innings hitting his first ever 6 in a score of 43 when he was run out.

Eight Ash Green finished on 166 for 7 from their 30 overs to lose by 34 runs.

After the match Richard Parker done a speech telling some of his favourite stories of his youth coach David Merriday & Boo Cant who built the pavilion extension in the 1980's.

Connor Amos was announced as the Youth Player Of The Year and presented with the new David Merriday Youth Shield.

The day went very well with a good mixture of young & old in the crowd, nice weather and a cricket tea at the end, just like the good old days.

There is a 9 run difference between the batting and bowling on the Eight Ash Green innings. I will try to get in closer, but I do not have end of over running score, so might prove difficult.
