Match report EAG 2nd XI came into this match against the league leaders Chappel, on the back of a couple of league defeats. We, of course, lost the toss and Chappel decided to bat. Their top 3 batters this season have over 600 runs each to their name. Our top 6 players have scored 600 all tolled....Skipper Collins decided to open with the pace of Fowler and the guile of Wair. The plan being to tie them down at one end and encourage them to throw the bat at the other - in the hope of picking up some catches.

A plan is only as good as the execution from the players and I am delighted to report that EAG were right on it this week. Six catches (and no drops) later and some quality fielding left Chappel reeling at 73 all out. Our bowling unit were excellent with Wair (3-15 off 9 overs) the pick of the bunch - earning him man of the match for this game. We also saw a brilliant wicket keeping performance from James Woodcock.

We needed to bat sensibly and positively in our reply and an aggressive 22 from Jack Axon sent us on our way to victory. His opening partner, Nico Dormant batted maturely for 27 not out with James Woodcock, 10 not out, hitting the winning boundary.

A terrific, season best performance from our team. Roll on next week when we go to Colchester.
