Match report As Eagcc 2s rocked up to the Green for the first home game of the season in mid June, it seemed we faced 2 opponents, Witham 4ths and the weather.

Regardless of impending dampness, 1pm rolled around and an important early wicket from newly turned opening bowler Coppin meant at 13:18 when we went off for breif weather delay EAGCC were feeling good about the cricket.

Half an hour of watching rainfall was evidently what Ollie Licence needed to psyche himself up as he took an innings defining 3-28 as play resumed. Along with this spell: a sharp run out of the opposition captain; more consistent bowling from Copin and all round tight fielding display from the whole team left Witham 41-5 after 16 overs.

EAGCC then turned to more experience slow bowling to see off the innings. Spells of 3-8 from Guthrie and 2-5 from Murray meant our batsman faced the target of 64 to get our first win of the year. A target that should have been no problem but for a team that has struggled with the bat so far this year, there were still nerves as well as clouds in the air.

These nevers were compounded when we conceded an early wicket at 1-1 but an assured partnership of 63 between the destructive Bradbury (46 off 33) and the assured Polley (14 off 32) meant we ran out comfortable winners by 9 wickets.

Well played to all involved in a well spirited but clinical display.

POTM - Ed Bradbury 46 (33) in a team that has struggled for runs this year this was an important confidence building knock.
