Match report It was with trepidation that I decided to go ahead with the match. The square playing area was good and the wicket had the covers on all week to protect it from the many deluges of rain, so the wicket was firm. It was the outfield at both sight screen ends of the pitch that were extremely wet and soft, but I thought and others agreed it should be fine to play and by the end of the match everyone agreed it was the right decision to play.

Chelmsford won the toss and batted. Eight Ash Green contained Chelmsford well early on, but once opening bowlers Ethan Wyatt and Connor Murphy came off Chelmsford's run rate increased with Robert Hayto hitting 4 sixes in his score of 60 to total 187 for 6 from 40 overs.

Eight Ash Green lost Tim Chambers in the 4th over, but then Daryl Sleeman hit a six and got out in the same over as did Ethan Wyatt who also hit a six and then got out in the same over. Those 2 sixes were about as good as it got, as we lost wickets steadily to be bowled out for 78.

It was good to get the first match of any type played at Eight Ash Green this season, due to the amount of rain, just a shame about the result.

We are not accustomed to the bar being open, so a thank you to Rachel, who ran the bar during the match and was very pleased with the takings on the day.
