Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Halstead II on Sat 18 May 2019 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report That's better Green. Recent frustrations were put behind us as we overcame Halstead by 6 wickets with virtually 10 overs to spare, allowing a rare early finish, not long after 6pm. Good job too, because the early afternoon sunshine had given way to an early evening chill and, of course, everyone was in a rush to get home for Eurovision!
Prior to the toss the wicket looked like the batsmen might enjoy themselves, but it actually offered something for everyone and was perhaps a little two-paced to start with. The early Halstead batsmen certainly had their struggles against Oli Firmin allowing Oli to pick up three in his opening spell (a fourth followed later) and while new-ball partner Calum McDonald didn't manage a breakthrough himself, the redoubtable JP came steaming up the hill (or is that trundling with menace?) to remove obdurate opener Dakin. That allowed Ali Woodcock to take over doing, well, what Ali Woodcock always seems to do: keep it tight and take wickets, as his figures of 3-33 from 13 overs confirm. Captain Keith Hammond had sufficient confidence in his bowlers to allow himself a rare day off from turning over his arm, T-Roy Collins and Ollie Stovell offering control at the other end to Ali, with Ollie claiming a wicket of his own. Thus, Halstead were restricted to 155-9 from their 45 overs.
We lost Stephen Nunn early in our reply, but the brothers Hammond made serene progress in taking us to 70 in the 19th over. It was a major surprise that Keith fell on 31, having already stroked two splendid maximums. When JP followed in the same over nerves jangled for a while, but were then settled again by another partnership, this time between Alex Hammond and Ollie Mewis. Unfortunately, Alex fell on 49 with the scoreboard showing that number that we don't like to mention (or at least a variant of it), but Ollie Stovell joined namesake Mewis to see us home. It was another determined batting effort from Ollie M and for the second time this season he had the pleasure of securing victory with a boundary.
