Match report Two weeks ago EAG 2nd XI scored over 400 runs. So Captain Luke Coppin had an easy call to make when the toss was won - bat first.

The pitch played well, if a bit slow in the outfield, and the Green made a good start with openers E. Frost (20) and N. Patel (23) racing to 36-0 off 6 overs. Braintree adjusted and their super straight bowling kicked into gear. The run rate dropped, and wickets steadily fell. Partnerships of 24, 15, 7, 5, 12 and 22 showed that no pair could establish a solid platform from which to build and the final total of 148 - 8 off 40 overs looked below par. Coppin's 27 not out was an end of innings highlight, capped with a magnificent straight six. Our compliments must go to Braintree's spin duo of MacLeod and Foyster who combined to take 6-51 off 14 overs.

A first over wicket for N. Patel gave EAG early hope but Braintree dug in. Wayward bowling gave Braintree 46 free runs in extras (15 wides and 27 byes) and added to some solid batting, Braintree reached their target in 30 overs, losing just 4 wickets. Overall a fairly comfortable victory for the visitors.

As per usual the 2nd XI played the game in the right way, Luke Coppin deserved his Player of the Match award, and we looked great in our new 'MM' baggy caps. Improvement will need to come in the coming weeks starting with reducing the 'free' runs we give our opposition. We all really enjoyed the high of the first week, and felt the disappointment of the second - let's go and get more of the highs in the coming weeks!
