Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 96 runs

Match report The 2nd XI took on the Real Oddies at the Green, due to availability problems the Green fielded a rather extreme blend of youth and experience. The Oddies batted first against the Green’s new ball attack of DJM and Murray Senior, the Green made a promising start with Nick taking an early wicket, caught at first slip by Neil Brinded, and DJM opening with a couple of maiden overs. The Oddies then set about building a substantial total, against a very young (DJM, Nick & Colin apart) bowling attack, who bowled really well but were unable to prevent the batsmen making 254 for 4. The wickets were shared between Stephen Nunn who took 2, while Colin and Nick took one each. The youngsters deserve special mention, Matt Parker (12 years old) Matt Murray (14) Richard Nunn (13) Dom Rice (12) bowled 13 overs between them, supported by James Parker (12) behind the stumps.

The Green faced an uphill task in chasing 255 to win and were never seriously in contention, Neil top scored with 56 not out while Chris Markham-Lee and Nick made 23 each, but the innings closed on 158 – 6.

Despite the heavy defeat it was a very encouraging performance from such a young team, which promises much for the future.
