Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 74 runs

Match report Some good form during the season earned EAG midweek XI the right to play in the end of season knockout trophy. A win against Boxted saw us through to the final to play against West Bergholt, a team who had already beaten us twice in the league by comfortable margins.

We lost the toss and were asked to field. West Bergholt got off to a great start and after 4 overs EAG were reeling. Our resolve stiffened in the middle third of the innings as wickets fell and the scoring rate slowed. However, Bergholt rallied strongly in the final overs to post an above average, but by no means unbeatable, 156-5.

EAG needed to bat aggressively but sensibly to compete and unfortunately our aggression got the better of us. Six batters were caught playing shots and no one managed to sustain their innings. Only four EAG players made it to double figures and no one reached 20. Our innings finished on 82-8, some 74 runs behind.

Like all of our games this season we played with spirit and functioned well as a team. Midweek cricket has been fun for all concerned and we look forward to moving up the league table next season.
