Sudbury v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club North Essex 1st XI (Sunday) on Sun 22 Aug 2021 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost By 9 Wickets

Match report The Sunday XI's latest voyage saw them dock at already promoted Sudbury. With regular Skipper Duncan enjoying a well-earned break camping, Will Spicer took the reins.

His first job was to win the toss, which he did with flying colours & despite the overhead conditions, decided to bat on what looked like a good wicket. Unfortunately, the Greens innings got off to the worst possible start with Rob Lewis running himself out in the second over of the game. (Should be noted this was the 4th run out Will has been involved in over the past two weeks. Starting to look somewhat careless!). Jack Axon joined the Skipper out in the middle, putting on a watchful 2nd wicket partnership of 89 with Jack showing maturity beyond his years, keeping out some good bowling while ensuring he put away the bad balls. The partnership was broken with Tullin cleaning up Jack for 28. This brought Steve to the crease & thanks to some generous bowling saw him & Will smash163 in just 15 overs with Will bringing up his maiden 100 for the Green. Steve was out for 88 off the last ball of the innings with Will finishing up on a magnificent 120*.

In most games, 252 would seem like a pretty good score & it would’ve been if the opposition didn’t contain a certain Ryan Vickery who has rather taken a liking to the Green bowling in previous encounters. Today was no different as he stroked the bowling attack to all corners of the ground ending up on 179*. He was ably supported by Bella Fairs who hit a classy 56 as the two of them put on a mammoth opening partnership of 247. Looking at the scorecard you think the Green bowled poorly, but it was far from the case as the young bowling attack kept it tight, bowling good lines & lengths. Some day’s however you must tip your caps (Now available in the club shop!) to the opposition.

Overall, it was another tough afternoon for the Green but one that will be remembered for a fantastic innings from Will. It may have been his first hundred for the club but one imagines it shall not be his last.
