Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 10 Wickets

Match report On a breezy but cool Saturday Eight Ash Green CC recorded a comfortable victory versus Wivenhoe. If the game took place last year it would've been rained off but the Green's new covers did the job and the game took place! The Green fielded a youthful side with many of the 1's on either stag duty or dubious dental appointments. None the less, after a solid warm up the Green were underway forced to bowl first on a dry wicket. Calum McDonald was the first to take a wicket with a lovely bouncer... his second wicket was a drag-on. You can argue though his good bowling built the pressure for those wickets. Troy Collins also picked up a wicket with to quote the wicket keeper: " it was an absolute jaffer, swinging in, nipping away." But as we are sure you have heard the bowler of the day & Col Brewery Man of the Match went to Matt Parker. His bowling spell today can be compared to Stuart Broad's 8-15 vs Australia. The only difference being the quality of the cricket, the number of wickets, the number of runs, the speed of the bowling.. basically almost everything. However, 6 wickets for 22 runs off only 9 overs are not to be sniffed at with a superb caught & bowled (doesn't drop them off his own bowling) ensured by the 18th over the Green were only chasing 58.

With only 59 runs needed for victory of 72 overs the Green would do well to let this victory slip. Enter another Parker as James scored a very impressive 45* with 11 fours and 1 single so an ideal innings for him. Stuart meanwhile knocked the ball about for a pathetic 12. The Green reached the total in the 7th over. A great victory after a tough game last week and puts us in good stead for Felixstowe away next week.
