Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Frinton on Sun 03 Sep 2017 at 13:30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Frinton strolled to what was a predictable 5 wicket victory at the Heath, although the Greenies had their moments of fun during the match.
The Green batted first and managed to see out the full allocation of overs thanks mainly to a defiant unbeaten 46 from Jens; we closed on 159-8, but never seriously thought that would be enough, even against 9-man opponents. There were Nunns at the top & bottom of the order and they were our only other batsmen to reach double figures, Richard opening with another 36 whilst Stephen came in at the end and provided some entertainment in his unbeaten 27, including a perfectly executed reverse sweep - that's one for the club coaching manual.
In reply, Frinton's overseas player set off like an express train and Nunn the younger soon found his run contribution in debit (1-60 off 4 overs, ouch!). Our guest Kiwi Shelford, more familiar with an oval ball, provided some very lively left-arm seam from the other end and was rewarded with a couple of wickets; now El Presidente has a task to get in him the squad for next season! As Frinton neared victory, so Will Spicer grabbed a pair of wickets too, including one to a steepler well held by Tom Woodnott, much to his and his teammates' obvious delight.
Nevertheless, Frinton's victory was achieved well before the scheduled drinks break, allowing all concerned to tuck in to another excellent BBQ provided by the aforementioned EP - good job, Richard, thank you.
