Coggeshall III v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) on Sat 16 May 2015 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report On Saturday the EAGCC2CXI embarked on a treacherous journey to Earls Colne business park to play Coggeshall 3rds, the journey there was not to be missed with Captain Comic Book Guy ( look him up) singing along to Take That, his singing was so good Nick (in the car with us) said that he saw Luke transform into Gary Barlow himself-when he was fat; instead of avoiding tax like Gary B Luke avoids exercise and healthy food. Alas we arrived at the ground which had a nearby airfield, this was handy for a quick escape in case of a Tony Lee outburst or possibly worse a Matt Parker and Tony Lee outburst.

However upon arrival a full eleven had turned up without the presence of Richard Parker which is always a good start to the game. Craptin Caketin unsurprisingly lost the toss and we fielded in the heat to a somewhat short of players Coggeshall. Matt Parker opened the bowling with the deceptive bowling of Calum McDonald down the other end who took the first wicket to everyone's surprise. The delivery was a leg side long hop which the batsman padded down leg, the prospect of an lbw was less promising then explaining to Nick the rules of Pool and guidelines on how not to be drunk. Anyway, Calum was the only person on the whole pitch to say a word that resembled an appeal, to everybody's surprise the Umpire whose chromosomes consisted of XX, had given the captain out, and argument ensued resulting in 'Knight in Shining Armour' Tony Lee to step in- the batsman and umpire both walked off yet only one cried when crossing the rope, mainly tears of joy as they don't have to keep listening to Lee's bad banter and smelling the sweaty suncream from Ollie Stovell.

Matt Parker then backed it up with a wicket of a 10 year old which was very Mersea-esque, with a catch at close backward point by Richard Polyester.

A long partnership from Coggeshall ensued afterwards with not many runs being scored in a large proportion of the match, not even the likes of Tony Lee or Nick (insert surname here) could break the partnership. Alas not even EAG cricket nerd Drew Woodhouse could break it. Instead it took a combination of Steel and Suncream. Tight bowling from Keith had forced the batsman to edge one to gully where the suncreamy sweaty grasp of Stovellio held onto the ball which was dipping on him slightly to break the long partnership.

Keith took another wicket as all strike bowlers were called to take the final wickets, Calum bowled well again taking 2 wickets at the tail with a very tricky C&B, Matt Parker too bowled well with him and Keith taking wickets either end, the final wicket fell into the hands of Tony Lee who took it well from Matt's bowling which took EAG into tea to get 95 off 46 overs.

Neil Brinded swapped his keeping gloves to his batting gloves, going out with the intent to score, Neil played some lovely strokes which were very attacking and uncharacteristic as well. However this performance was slightly shadowed by a new boy in town, James Belsham top scored with 26 runs and four fours.

In came Ollie Stovell and Nick White-balltouchingtheblack. Ollie played sensibly and blocked the new fast female bowler (thats right Jamie you missed a bullet with this one) well without getting out. The same cannot be said with Nick who amazingly was stumped the second ball he faced yet nobody appealed. Nick was then on strike to the fast female bowler, nick bravely took one for the team as he watched the ball bounce short of a line to strike him on the arm, a delay followed as finally the pain had reached his brain and he stepped away with a somewhat muted 'ouch'. Richard Polyethylene cleared him to play on where he was unfortunately out next ball.

In came Captain Cretin who struggles with the leadership skills to nominate somebody else to do the match reports... However, after striding in with a grin on his face, flashing his gums prevailing his bic mac breakfast. His innings was short much like his stamina.

The final 20 runs were needed over 17 overs, however when Drew woodhouse came in this was quickly shortened with his SR of 155 hitting 14 off 9 balls who safely steered it home with Calum.

A good day overall and was good to see that the firsts won as well, if you want to write match reports feel free to express your interests to Luke as he probably won't approach you.

Make sure you come watch us at Home this Saturday AND Bank Holiday Monday, dont forget it's quiz night saturday as well with a special curry deal on as well, details are on the website.
