Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Purleigh on Sat 07 Sep 2013 at 12.30
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost By 90 Runs
Match report
For the second week in a row poor batting cost the Green as they slumped to a 90 run victory at home to Purleigh. In Paul Marston’s absence, Stephen Nunn took the reins hoping for his first win as Captain at the 4th attempt. However things started poorly as he promptly lost the toss and the Green were asked to bowl first. Despite a tight spell from Oli Firmin, Purleigh got off to a rapid start before 3 wickets from Nunn clawed the Green back into the game. There would to be however no stopping Chris Freegard who hit an astonishing 146 in an innings full of power and precision. His brilliant effort was brought to an end by Jack Smith who miraculously recovered from an earlier injury to claim 4 wickets including a hat trick (undoubtedly helped by the Purleigh batman attempting to dilscoop the hat trick ball!) Purleigh innings ended on 230 which at the halfway stage seemed well below par.
The chase got off to a quick start but much like last week the Greens top order collapsed with a mixture of poor shot selection and terrible running causing the main downfall. Oli Firmins 30 being the only meaningful score from the recognised batman. An entertaining cameo at the end from Charlie Lovejoy earned an extra batting point but overall it was a dismal performance in a game that the Green should have won. The Green finish the season away at Bardfield hoping to end on a high.
