Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v West Bergholt on Sat 17 Aug 2013 at 13.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets
Match report
The Green welcomed local rivals West Bergholt to Fordham Heath on Saturday hoping to take a huge stride towards promotion. Having won the toss and deciding to bowl first in ideal conditions the green soon made their advantage tell with Goodall and Firmin bowling brilliant spells to remove danger men Elson and Wheeler as Bergholt slipped to 28-4. Just as it looked like it would be another stroll in the park for the green, Bergholt hit back putting on 40 for the 5th wicket. In what looked like a rather desperate move, Captain Smith chucked the ball to Nunn looking to break the partnership. However it proved a masterstroke as 2 wickets fell in Nunn’s first over putting the green back in control. With Hammond polishing off the tail (4-20) the Green bowled out Bergholt out for a well below par 114.
Still in tough batting conditions, the Greens chase started badly losing Smith early. Paul Marston however showed all his experience to anchor the Greens innings as he put on useful Partnerships with Nunn and Hammond to put the right in control. After he fell for 43 the Green went through their usual minor collapse but the ever dependable RP (15*) saw them home.
It proved another great win for the Green against good opposition meaning victory away at Frinton on Saturday will secure promotion.
