Ardleigh v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 22 Jul 2012 at 1PM
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 34 Runs
Match report
Summer finally arrived and on a gorgeous summer's day the Green sweated their way to a hard-fought victory on a pudding of a pitch.
Batting first, Keeble and Polley went quickly (though actually not quickly enough in Polley's case, run out by a direct hit) and of the batsmen that followed only Stephen Nunn could master the combination of a slow pitch, slow outfield, and (very) slow bowling. A richly deserved 50 was only a run away when he tonked one straight down the throat of the man on the midwicket boundary. Everyone one else quickly followed. A score of 137 was smaller than expected, as indeed was the tea (hampered as it was by a lack of milk and, it seemed, tea).
When Ardleigh batted, the Nunns and Goodall bowled excellently, conceding only 40 runs off 27 overs between them. Jens sportingly made a game of it by allowing himself to be carted a few times in the direction of cow before Marsy showed what a wily old skipper he is by bringing Matt Norris on to bowl the worst ball of the day, which was duly plonked into the grateful hands of a juggling Jens at cover. Richard Polley polished the innings off with some well-flighted turning off-breaks, which were largely unplayable as they appeared out of the setting sun behind the bowler's arm. A run out for the final wicket was typical of a good display in the field and the Green trooped off victorious. Jens' efforts to operate the shower were as successful as England's attempt to save the first test against South Africa and simply failed. All in all a pleasant day's cricket in the sun and a good victory. But High Easter will be a different proposition at the Heath next week.
