Clacton Ramblers v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 25 Sep 2011 at 12.30pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 27 Runs
Match report
Eight Ash Green 1XI went into there last game of the season with only 10 men (including the partially lame James!). Batting first on what appeared a very flat track the Green made a bad start with Luke out fourth ball of the innings. However Clacton had to wait 21 overs until they could claim the wicket of James Warner for 79 after putting on 123 with Richard Nunn for the second wicket. Unfortunately for Clacton this brought to the crease Will who started slow but, after the dismissal of Richard for 64, he really started to 'up-the-anti' and went on to make an unbeaten 109. After Kev and Matt Chambers made scores of 21 and 17 respectively and with Steely chipping in at the end with 7 the Green's innings came to a close with a score of 329 for 5 (the highest score this season). Clacton began their pursuit of the mamouth total in a promising fashion with Steely and Matt Murray unable to trouble the opening batsmen on a wicket which seemed to have nothing left in it. However after a stand of 83 Steely was rewarded for his persistance by getting Cross out for 20, after an attacking start. The next wicket fell quickly with first change bowler Chambers having M Taylor caught by Will at the second time of asking. However like the Green's innings the partnership of Daniels and Cooper started to bulid at a rapid rate. Despite the valiant efforts of Richard and Tony Lee it was left to Will to make the break-through with the score on 229. After the important wicket of Daniels the run rate slowed and the pressure began to build and this brought the downfall of Cooper for 64 and that really ended any hopes of an unlikely Clacton victory. After a 'spirited' display from Keiron Smith ( well known to the Green from his Youth days)and Moseley the overs ran out with Clacton on 302 leaving the Green with a victory margin of 27 runs (a lot closer than they would have liked). However it was nice to end the season with a good win.
