Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Chappel on Sun 14 Aug 2011 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets
Match report
Eight Ash Green’s 1st X1 comfortably beat Chappel by 10 wickets.
The Green fielded first with Keith Steel and Nipuna Ukwatte, only giving away one run before Steely claimed his first wicket in the 3rd over, trapping the batsman LBW. He quickly followed this up with a second, Kevin Smith holding onto a catch behind the stumps to dismiss the new batsman. This was succeeded by some big hitting from Chappel’s captain hitting 14 off Steely’s over before being bowled by Nippy.
The Chappel batsmen regained some composure, adding steadily to their total until the introduction of Will Shearman and Alastair Woodcock into the attack, both claiming wickets in their first overs. Woody continued to cause havoc for the mid order, taking a further 3 wickets, despite efforts from Chappel’s Sibley (47) Beckett (20) and Wyatt (16*) but with the re-introduction of Nippy into the attack, Chappel were all out for 156, inside 36 overs.
Keith Hammond and Stephen Nunn opened for the Green and after both surviving an early let off, proceeded to dominate the Chappell bowling, both displaying an impressive range of shots all round the wicket. Keith was first to 50 in 51 balls and Stephen followed with his half century in 64 balls. Despite Chappell ringing the bowling changes the openers upped their rate and completed an unbroken partnership of 157 with victory in the 28th over, Keith finishing with 84* with a total of 12 4’s and a six and Stephen with a career best of 66* which included 11 4s off 80 balls.
