Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Springfield on Sun 15 May 2011 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won EAG CC won by 2 Wickets
Match report
Sunday 15th May 2011 saw EAGCC host Springfield at the Heath. Skipper Will Shearman won the toss and elected to field boasting a strong bowling attack. Keith Steel bowled in excellent areas and was unlucky to get two edges not finding the hands of the slip and gully fielders. Giorgio also continued his early season form and both getting early rewards, Steely dismissing Southwell caught behind to Kevin Smith and Giorgio dismissing Clancy, caught by Will. Springfield however to started to rebuild with Attwell and Springfield skipper Symonds the latter look in good touch playing some excellent strokes, this prompted Will to bring on Ali Hammond who generated good bounce and carry and was rewarded with the wicket of attwell another victim to Smithy. Vice captain Tom Aston then was brought on to take the pace off, followed by Richard Polley to keep things tight at the other end. Tommy getting three wickets with an Excellent catch on the boundary by Matt Norris and Marsy tacking a safe catch to dismiss skipper Symonds to who played a really fine knock of 85. Ali came back at the end of innings to claim a 3for restricting Springfield to 213 off their 45 overs.
After a splendid tea, the EAG reply couldn't have started any worse with skipper Will Shearman being bowled in the first over from a decent delivery from Attwell. Tom Aston came in at 3 and played some fine strokes with support from Richard who was eventually bowled by Skipper Symonds for 11. The introduction of spin from Si Dance proved to good for Tommy who again could not convert a good start into a big score and was caught and bowled for 31. This paved the way for Marsy who continued his good form punishing anything loose and Ali who was manoevering the ball well picking up ones and twos regularly. Marsy fell 3 short of another half century and Kev Smith then being caught for 10. Ali was then joined by Matt "Chuck the Finisher" Norris who played a nice hand for 12, releasing the pressure for Ali who was continuing to play well reaching his 50. Then Springfield opening bowler Attwell was reintroduced and came on and bowled an excellent spell grabbing a hatrick, clean bowling Matty, Tony Lee and Rob Webb. This forced Ali to play aggressively who smashed the ball to all parts with a massive over of 21 swinging the game back in EAG favour. Steely then was at the crease and finished the game off with a huge six over deep midwicket to win the game.
An excellent victory for the Green and a fantastic game of cricket.
