Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) v Colchester III on Sat 18 Sep 2010 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 7 Wickets
Match report
The 2nd XI took on a young Colchester team in their last game of the season knowing that a win would guarantee promotion.
Steely & Jack opened the bowling for the Green and kept it tight in the early overs, with Colchester being to 20-2 off the first ten overs. Whyte launched a counter attack for Colchester, blasting numerous boundaries mainly to the leg side, with Stephen in particular suffering, going for 29 off 2 overs. The introduction of Tom's spin bowling turned the game back in the Green's favour with a spell of 5-29 off his 10 overs. Jack chipped in with 2 wickets while Steely, Stephen and DJM picked up one each to bowl out Colchester in the 40th over.
A new opening partnership of Colin and Tom walked out for the Green after tea, and made comfortable progress towards their target. It was something of a surprise when Tom was out to a very good catch at square leg for 32, Marsy made 25 before holing out at long off and Chris put a dent in his batting average by being bowled for a duck. This left the Skipper to come to the middle to strike a typically quick 16 to see the Green past the winning post, Colin being the other not out batsmen with 39.
The Green won by 7 wickets to clinch promotion to Division 3, however they will have to wait for Kirby's final two games to see if the go up as Champions.
