Witham CC IV v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) on Sat 25 Apr 2026 at 12.30pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 206 runs
Match report
An incredible first game of the season saw EAG 2nd XI post a huge score of 417 - 7 in their allotted 40 overs. This eclipses the 324 scored at Earls Colne in 2022, which was the last time anyone can remember us scoring over 300! Indeed the Two Counties Division 9 record score of 426, dating back to 2011, was in real threat for much of our innings.
EAG started brightly with a century partnership between Nitja Patel (96 off 60 balls) and Nico Dormant (46). Nitja fell agonizingly close to a maiden century as he chased a straight one - but his innings was a impressive combination of power hitting and gap bursting fours. Stuart Simpson continued the scoring with his personal best of 42, and newcomer Uttkarsh Mittal scored a 67 that featured seven maximums. Our youth contingent rallied to the task with Kayden Jayasena (aged 14) scoring 21 before Thomas Riley (14 years old) scored a not out 54 on his debut.
Witham were quite rightly rather deflated when they came out to bat, but put up a good show scoring 211 all out in 29 overs. Two wickets apiece for Dev Agrawal, Kayden Jayasena and Stuart Simpson did the damage but in truth all 8 bowlers used played their role.
There is room for improvement in our fielding and catching but it would be churlish to look past our incredible and exciting first batting performance of the season!
