Copford CC v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) on Sat 05 Sep 2026 at 12.30 pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 126 runs

Match report EAGCC looked to maintain some match sharpness in a friendly game against a youthful Copford side. Copford looking to bowl first and the green hoping to bat lead to an uncontested toss, allowing Hansana and Jake to open the batting.

Hansana looked confident for 5 balls before top edging one straight up in the air and into the keepers gloves. Jake was then joined by Jack Axon, who was in desperate need of some runs. Jake smashed his way to 35 before one found its way through. Stand in captain, Matt Norris then joined Jack at the crease. The pair saw off the opening bowlers and then Jack decided he didn’t want to see Matt bat anymore, taking a single off the final ball of about 4 overs in a row. When Matt did finally get to face a ball, he was greeted with a friendly full toss which he duly obliged in bottom edging onto his pads and then onto the stumps. Wickets continued to fall as Jack made his way to another effortless 50, retiring not out against a panicking captain’s wishes. But he needn’t have panicked. In came Troy and Oscar who put on a masterclass, smashing the ball to all corners of the ground (plus the tree on two occasions in Oscar’s case). A 99 run partnership ended when Troy was bowled on 43. Oscar was 4 runs away from his maiden 50 going into the final over. Ajula on strike, blocked out the first ball to boos from the onlooking crowd. He then flicked one off his legs to give Oscar the strike, or so everyone thought, but to Oscar’s visible dismay a midfield on the boundary saw the ball go for 4. Thankfully Oscar did then get on strike and competed a superb 50 before retiring not out. The green finished on a mammoth 240 runs.

Troy opened the bowling with his usual accuracy and control, Conner at the other end bowled some excellent balls, almost beating their openers for pace on a number of occasions. Finley was arguably the pick of the bowlers, getting a well deserved wicket to break the opening partnership. Hansana, getting a rare bowl, claimed 2 wickets, although I’m not sure his usual skipper, Sam, was too impressed with what he saw from the pavillion. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, giving the Copford captain plenty of opportunity to moan about a Richard Polley umpiring decision from a few months ago. At least he’s over it now. The Green ended up with a 126 run victory but more importantly gained some valuable match practise before the final push to claim the league title against Mersea next week!
