Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 61 runs

Match report EAG won the toss and decided to bat first on a good looking wicket. This continued faith in our batting line up was justified with a score of 240-6 off 40 overs.

Opener Hansana Gunasekera has looked in terrific touch since his return from university, without turning this into a notable score. That changed this week with a superlative 78. At the other end of the crease stood Jack Axon whose combination of quick singles and subtlety placed boundaries took him to another brilliant hundred.

The task for the Green was simple as we took to the field - firstly, win the game and secure 15 league points for the result and secondly, capture all 10 Ipscol wickets to get another 5 bonus points and a maximum 20 in total. In our bid to catch the league leaders, nothing else would be a good result. Things started well as the Green reduced Ipscol to 47-5 after 15 overs with some tight and aggressive bowling led by Dev Agrawal and Ajula Gunasekera. Ipscol rallied in the next 15 overs moving to 127-5. The victory for the Green looked assured but we still needed 5 wickets in the final 10 overs for maximum points. An inspired bit of fielding by Dev Agrawal led to a crucial run out, and the breaking of the long running Ipscol partnership. The Green were back up and running. Wickets fell, but overs flew by and it all came to a head late in the 39th over when Hansana Gunasekera 'top and tailed' his man of the match performance, taking a diving catch to secure maximum points for the Green. As we jubilantly left the field we were joined by the 1st XI who had returned from a big away win - giving the Green 2 for 2 on this magnificent Saturday.
