Chappel v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U16 on Fri 08 May 2009 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 35 Runs
Match report
The first game of the season started with a friendly against Chappel for this colts team. After a few late arrivals, the toss was done at the boundary by a highly professional looking captain that was Josh Lennard-jones. Unfortunately he lost it, but luckily the Green were put into bat, looking to post a big total against a Chappel side consisting of only 9 men and a very short leg-side boundary.
The game got off to a slow start, with the openers struggling to find runs. As well as this, wickets were falling at regular intervals with Oscar Clayson (5), Charlie Docherty (0), Ollie Hearsum (7) and Curtis Farthing (2) all out within the first 10 overs. With a collapse looking on the cards, Luke Keeble got to the crease and hit 46, with able support from Jake Budd (7) and Richard Nunn (20), who both batted well. The last few overs included some worrying moments, especially with the running, but the score was taken to 114-9 with a reverse hit from Josh that was given as a leg bye.
The Chappel innings began with a few words exchanged between opening bowler Josh Jennard-Jones (1-12) and their batsman, with the latter coming out on top, smashing a four first ball. After this minor blip, a wicket came for Josh, then Jack Airey (0-24) bowled tightly at the other end as well. Once more, the Green were taking wickets regularly at this point, keeping Chappel pinned down. An inspired performance from Jake Budd (3-2) and Oscar Clayson (2-12) meant that we were firmly on top throughout, even giving a chance to Luke Keeble to unleash his pace upon the world. With Chappel bowled out for 79, Eight Ash Green ran out comfortable winners.
