Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) v Coggeshall III on Sat 02 Aug 2025 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 37 runs
Match report
Cloudy conditions and a strong bowling team meant EAG were not disappointed to lose the toss to Cogeshall as they chose to bat first.
Norris was struck on the knee by the ball as he was surprised by the pace from Fowler (4-18).
Dot balls and pressure in the first two overs led to agrawal (4-31) taking his first wicket of the day as the opener departs for a golden duck.
Wickets did not stop there as Fowler proceeded to take a wicket after a very economical first few overs.
Agrawal and Fowler take 3 wickets in 2 overs which included 2 great catches from Spence at point.
A tight opening spell from the bowling duo had EAG in a great position as Cogeshall were 31-6 after 15 overs.
The two Co captains were satisfied and looked for other bowling options to change the flow of the game and make the batsman adjust.
T.Collins(1-21) picks up a wicket to break the partnership between the batsman with another catch from Spence.
Amos(0-27) and Coppin(0-21) had good overs but could not break the partnership of the batsman and they scored runs to push the momentum in their favour.
The batsman at no 8 hit Wair (0-28) for 22 runs in a over despite batting so low and meant Fowler would come in for the last 2 overs to take two more wickets meaning both opening bowlers narrowly missed out on 5-fers.
Cogeshall managed to score 150 despite a very strong start from the green but we still felt it was a chase-able target.
Smith(7) and Norris(50) started off slow as they were surviving the swinging and seaming conditions but Norris stayed around and attacked the bad balls for boundaries.
Norris pulled a shot for 6 right at the scores table to make sure they were paying attention then shortly brought up his impressive 50 on the next boundary. Unfortunately Norris would depart a few balls later to a tight stumping call.
With most of the opening batsman gone EAG struggled to build partnerships in this part of the game and Cogeshall continued to take wickets meaning the tail was required to get the last 50 runs but it appeared too much for the inexperienced batsman as they took the last EAG wicket at 113 runs.
A disappointing loss as we couldn’t support the bowling performance with the batting in the game.
POTM- Fowler and Agrawal for their brilliant opening spells
HM- Norris for his work with the bat scoring a 50 and Spence for his impressive fielding with 3 catches
Thanks a llot to Dev for the match report this week, should be noted that he did not give himself POTM, this decision was taken out of his hands.
