Braintree III v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 2nd XI (Saturday) on Sat 14 Jun 2025 at 12:30pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 170 runs

Match report For anyone who has read the result of this fixture before turing to this match report I'm sure you'll understand why this will be fairly short.

Winning the toss was about as good as it got in a tough afternoon for the green, and with an inexperience batting line up and with strong looking bowling the decision was made, dispite the heat, to bowl. A decision that may have been regretted by captain Murray after what followed.

Although scoring from Braintree wasn't fluid, they managed a steady 5 an over for the first 10 over but with wickets from Agrawal (2-30) and Murray (1-38) we were well in the game and felt good at 46-3.

Amos (0-36) and Agrawal toiled and bowled well swinging the ball all over the place for the next 10 overs, but the Braintree batting was solid until drinks.

Their 4th wicket partnership worth 66 was broken by T.Collins (2-42) who struck twice quickly after drinks and at 112-5 our tails were up.

Coppin (1-58) and Collins toiled but were frustratingly unable to break a second long Braintree partnership of 88 as they moved to 200. Spence (1-14) was brought onto the attack late and did break this partnership and picked up the 6th wicket for another bowling point.

Coppin finished off the innings with his mandatory wicket and Braintree posted 226 from their 40. Dispite what felt like good bowling, 40 extras and 8 overthrows boosted the Braintree score considerably during the first innings.

It should be mentioned that 226 looked a good score but with a lightning outfield there was, what we now know to be misplaced, optimism as we ate lunch.

The second innings summary will be short.

A recovery from 5-5 thanks to T.Collins (30) with the only notable innings made the innings look less embarssing than it threatened to be.

8 of our players were clean bowled as we took just over 24 overs to he bowled out for 56.

POTM. Trying to focus on the positives Agrawal bowled very well opening up from one end but POTM this week was T.Collins for his 2 wickets at a key time to get a breakthrough and 30 runs with the bat.
