Great Horkesley & Lexden v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club North Essex 1st XI (Sunday) on Sun 18 Jul 2021 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report Great Horkesley & Lexden won the toss and unsurprisingly decided to bat on a very hot and sunny day.

Connor Murphy and Ethan Wyatt opened the bowling. Connor bowled 7 overs in a row to finish with figures of 7-2-15-2. Ethan was suffering from a severe headache and could only bowl 4 overs. Ethan went off quickly at the fall of the first wicket to take 2 Ibuprofen tablets and was back on before the next ball was bowled. Nitya Patel took over from Ethan, but could also bowl only 4 overs due to a back injury. Richard Nunn and Craig Axon then bowled in tandem for the next 10 overs. Craig's first ball was a full toss which S.Hassan hit handsomely into the covers, but Duncan Wyatt flung himself to his right to take a splendid diving catch and plenty of laughing and jubilation followed from all. Luke Coppin took over from Richard Nunn and bowled the best I have seen him bowl this season, which I told him and he said 'he had been practising and I said 'yes saw you practising on the Look East feature on TV. The tablets had now taken effect on Ethan who was able to come back and bowl with much more vigour and took 4-11 in 3.1 overs, which included a flying edge, which Neil Brinded fielding at first slip stuck out a right hand and took a tremendous one handed catch at first slip and unusually for Neil he was really pumped over taking the catch. Great Horkesley & Lexden were bowled out for 143.

Eight Ash Green were going along steadily at 58-1 from 15 overs, but then slumped to 74-5 from 23 overs. Venuja Gunaratna and Jack Axon steadily built a stand before Venuja was out and I sent in Craig Axon to push his son Jack along and it worked well and got the momentum back into the innings. Both scored a few runs quickly before being dismissed. Hansana Gunasekera was chipping the ball over the infield and taking 2's and 14 year old Hansana scored the winning 2 runs from the first ball of the final over, to finish on 19 not out and win by 2 wickets.

This match was a real team effort, with so many players making a vital contribution in the match. Really good win and team spirit was once again very good.

Scorecard I have put on play cricket and I will put on here shortly.
