Wivenhoe II v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) on Sat 24 Apr 2021 at 12.30pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Eight Ash Green won the toss and put Wivenhoe into bat. 15 year old Ethan Wyatt was making his first team debut after being drafted into the team due to Joe Young being taken ill on Friday evening.
Calum McDonald took an early wicket, but Wivenhoe were going along nicely at 65-1, but with Matt Parker taking 3 wickets Wivenhoe slumped to a 110-6. Andrew Green hit 3 sixes in a quickfire 36 to get the Wivenhoe score up to 163-8 from 40 overs, with Mike Canavon top scoring with 66, who was run out by a direct hit from Jens Wair.
The Eight Ash Green reply started well, until Stuart Hammond felled his opening partner Oliver Mewis, who could not get out of the way of a full blooded shot, which struck him on the arm. After a stoppage to allow for an ice pack to be applied they continued to put on an opening partnership of 51, but then 5 wickets fell in a short space of time to leave Eight Ash Green on 84-5, with the match very much in the balance. Robert Lewis came out to join Captain Steve Nunn and together they had a match winning partnership of 80, to win the match by 5 wickets with Steve Nunn top scoring with 57 not out.
