Match report One that got away.

EAG 2nd XI won the toss and decided to avoid the midday heat (34 degrees) for all eleven players and chose to bat first. It was still exhausting watching Neil Brinded and Richard Polley batting. Ten overs went by with 18 on the board before they exploded into life moving the score to 97-0 off 20 overs. Polley was then out for a splendid 72 (followed by an hour in a cool dark room). New man Robert Lewis made 25, with Neil ending on 23. New recruit Jack Axon, up from the U15's, made a bright 13 and looks to be a great talent.

The EAG score of 185 - 6 looked like a decent score - a little behind where we hoped to be given the opening stand - but certainly something to defend.

And the defence started well with Keith Steele and Matt Murray taking two quick wickets each to reduce Witham to 40-4. However, Bendell and Wilson turned the tables, wrestling the advantage Withams way. A 100 run partnership brought then within touching distance of the win and ahead of the run rate. A late wicket for EAG stand-in player / fielder and then bowler, Crag Axon, gave the Green hope but that was extinguished with Witham securing victory with three overs to go.
