Match report What happened to summer? The match started in cold and dank conditions and by the end I could have sworn there was snow in the air as temperatures dropped to -30c, if not lower.
Anyway, on to the cricket: Despite posting what appeared to be an under par 110-6, the Green won comfortably as Boxted were bowled out for just 44.
It was certainly not a batsman's wicket with top score coming from Will Spicer (33) before, having spent half of his innings batting on one leg, he retired hurt. The stubborn blighter that he is, even then Will didn't want to come off, but the sight of Porky Parker striding out to the crease was enough to convince him otherwise.
Even the Boxted skipper thought they were in with a good chance of chasing down Nelson, but that was before Troy Collins (4-15) & Calum McDonald (3-13) ripped the heart out of their batting; they were virtually unplayable. Fellow youngster Tony Lee (3-4) then wrapped up the tail, turning the ball past bamboozled batsmen.
If you were thinking that the champagne moment would belong to one of the bowlers, think again. That man Matt Parker once again stole the limelight with a stupendous one handed catch at first slip, demonstrating his dexterity & athleticism; for that catch perhaps we'll overlook the tardiness of his arrival for the match, the way he ran out Tom Lee and the way he fell over his own feet in getting stumped!
Thankfully, the win was achieved before the onset of the next ice age and the onward march of the PieRates continues. Well done, chaps.
