Boxted CC v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club U15 on Tue 19 Jul 2016 at 18.00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 9 wickets
Match report
On a very hot Tuesday evening the under 15's would play their last game of the season away at Boxted.
Boxted won the toss and elected to bat first. On a very hot day bowling was very difficult to sustain pace throughout a spell. Eight Ash Green's fielding started poorly with a lack of energy and commitment however after the drinks break we came out and looked like a completely different side. Everybody bowled and everyone bowled well especially in the heat. We took the key wickets of Cooke and Crayston, who were batting well. The wickets were shared by Troy Collins 1-20, Tom Woodnott 1-12 and myself 2-4. This halted the run rate and we managed to restrict Boxted to 101-4. At the innings break we believed this was a competitive score and would require one batsman to bat through.
Eight Ash Green would then attempt to chase. Troy and Myself opened the batting and started slowly as a result of some good line and length bowling. Troy was out in the third over trying to up the run rate. After 5 overs we were 13-1 and looked unlikely we would even reach 50! James Plummer and myself batted solidly until drinks. With the score on 39-1 we decided to up the run rate and put pressure back onto the bowlers by running hard between the wickets. A full toss that hit me on the helmet sparked some energy and soon came some big overs. We started to edge closer and eventually got ahead of the rate. I reached a half century but myself and James were not finished there and kept going punishing the bad balls. We won in the 18th over with a 4 beating the diving deep mid-wicket fielder. A great win from an unlikely position.
This was one of the best run chases I have been involved in and James Plummer batted really well to up the run rate and run hard in very hot conditions. Overall a great game to watch and be a part of. Thanks to Boxted for a massive tea served after the match. Thank you to the Eight Ash Green parents who assisted in the scoring and umpiring on a very hot day.
