Eight Ash Green Cricket Club PieRates XI v Real Oddies on Fri 14 Aug 2015 at 18:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 35 runs

Match report Friday saw the PIErates attempt to win the first silverware of the season, simply by beating the Real Oddies for the CECL overall winners. As you may have seen the Real Oddies too were unbeaten so we already knew they wouldn't be pushovers.

The pitch was still wet from the rain during the day, so when we were put into bat we knew it would be as difficult as getting Dom Purser to come out of his room after his internet was unblocked..

James P and Ollie L opened and did not make it look easy with balls bouncing off a length James was the first to fall misjudging a ball that kept rising an found itself in mid on's grasp, the firsts batsmen and PIErates new boy Jack Smith came in and after 2 balls began walking back to the clubhouse.

Wickets began to tumble quicker than Luke driving to a Mc Donalds Drive thru, poorly timed shots in deteriorating conditions saw fat luke and craptin Woodhouse go, a ball that stayed low saw Charlie go and then before you know it we are 7 for 5, Ollie Lovejoy however down the other end surpassed his 50 with a few nice shots and riding his luck. Jordan Ellis Standee Tom Miller played some nice golf shots but however getting to double figures skewed his running.

Unnecessary run outs saw Matt Parker and Ollie lovejoy having to finish off with Ollie getting caught with 3 balls left of the final over. However, the green mainly with the 86 from Ollie had 113 to defend.

The conditions now favouring the EAG's bowlers as Matt p opened up with good pace and bounce that saw the Frinton batsmen struggle to score, Captain down the other end got the first wicket with middle stump cartwheeling out the ground, then came V captain M Parker with a sharp bouncer gloving it to Jamie Murray.

Pace bowling seemed to be drying up the runs from the Oddies which is what the Green needed, James Parker now again drying up the run rate unfortunate to take any wickets, however that's what Stephen did, the pressure grew greater and greater that the batsmen were forced to play silly shots that saw their wickets fall. The lead wicket taker Ollie Stovell finished up in dwindling light for the last 8 balls, however it would've taken the Real Oddies a miracle to get to 113. They fell short only reaching 78, and saw the PIErates win the CECL trophy.

A nice turn out with thanks to Dave for scoring, the Lovejoys for the pie cooking, Richard for umpiring and Nippy for doing a bit of the BBQ. POW went to Ollie Lovejoy for his game saving 86.

Thanks also go to Captain Woodhouse who has put a lot of time organising games, pies and beers. May be a few more friendlies so keep your eyes on the website.
