Earls Colne v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 06 Sep 2015 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
With Steve getting sunburnt (for a change), Captain Keeble led the Sunday side into battle at Earls Colne. He failed his first job, losing the toss and EAG were put into the field.
They started buoyantly, with Richard Nunn taking 2 wickets in his second over, and once Jack Smith found his rhythm, was rightly rewarded for a wicket of his own. Some steadfast defence meant that 4th wicket partnership stretched past 50, despite the scoreboard under relative control (Charlie doing his best to upset this).
Luckily Will Spicer was having none of it. On debut, he struck twice in his last over. First (dare I say, dubiously) he got the opposition skipper to nick off into the wanting hands of Jamie Murray behind the stumps, before bowling the next batsman in off his last delivery. A fantastic debut, if ever I saw one.
From then on, Earls Colne never recovered, Ollie Stovell (somehow) claimed a hat-trick - a feat that was nearly reached the over before from Alex Hammond, proving the old "one-two" with Spicer nearly worked. The Earls Colne team collapsed dramatically from 87-3 to 88 all out. Ouch.
Easy pickings for the likes of Charlie Lovejoy (27*) and JP (17), who opened with a good mix of watchfulness, hard strokeplay, and an obdurate refusal to walk on a blatant nick behind (#panelumpires). Alex Hammond came in and helped finish it off with 37*.
Fantastic effort from the guys, let's roll on to next week!
