St Osyth CC v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) on Sat 22 Aug 2015 at 13:00
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 35 Runs
Match report
The Green boys travelled to the delights of St Osyth this Saturday, knowing that 1 point would see us up to Division 5.
With various sat navs taking us to St Osyth via the A120, half the team got stuck in the masses of chav traffic, all heading to their dream weekend break spot of Clacton.
With the toss done by stand-in Skip Oli Firball, he had no choice but to have a bat - a good decision!!!
James and Steve Nunn stepped out to the crease full of confidence from their great knocks of the previous week. Tight opening bowling from Toosie skip Handscombe and Bean saw Steve waft outside the off stump and knick to the keeper. In came Keith Junior who lasted 2 balls before a mix up saw him run out. The Green needed to rebuild and who else to step up but Alex “The Predator” Hammond. Alex and James batted really well making 70-odd, before James (47) decided to go for a sharp single and was run out by a direct hit. Rituccio Maximus (18) was next up and kept the momentum going with the now free-flowing 'Predator'. Alex, on 62 decided to go big and was caught at mid-on. Next Charley, who got excited was caught at mid-wicket for 6. Skip (11) entered the crease knowing another rebuild was required. The runs started to dry up and wickets fell with poor shot selection. Fortunately boom-boom Gooders smacked a quick-fire 30 to up the run rate. After Mark departed this left Jack and Nippy to see us over the line reaching 211 – 8.
A decent tea and the Green machine skipped out to the field knowing we were promoted. Next - to seal a win and get the league title in the bag!!
It didn’t start to-plan. Both Oli Firball and Mark weren’t comfortable with their ends as runs came easily for both openers. A switch of ends for the bowlers and a defensive field saw the run rate slow down. After 15 overs the first breakthrough, as Keith threw a bullet in to run out their opener Lloyd. Handscombe for Toosie looked dangerous but wickets started to fall at the other end. A game changing spell from in-form Steve Nunn saw the match sway in favour of the Green. In particular, a fabulous caught and bowled by Nunners saw Handscombe out for 66. Nunners ended up with figures of 4-33. Good supporting bowling from Nippy and Skip saw us restrict Toosie to 175.
To be honest it should have been less as some of the fielding was best placed in a circus rather than a cricket field.
All in all a great win and the Green are going up. Next Felixstowe at home! A win will see us in touching distance of the title!! COME ON YOU GREENIES!!!
