Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI v Chappel on Sun 12 Aug 2012 at 1PM
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets

Match report A strong Green 1st XI ran out comfortable winners against local rivals Chappel on Sunday, and for the second day running cricket at the Green was all over by 5.00.

Winning the toss and electing to bat Chappel were bowled out for 91 in under 20 overs, as the ‘twin ginger’ opening attack of Nunn Jnr and Goodall destroyed the top order taking 7 wickets between them. Richard made the initial breakthrough in the 3rd over when Richard Polley took a superb catch at 1st slip to remove the opener Perfect-Brown, while Mark followed this up by removing Chappel danger man Chris Carter, edging to keeper Walsh, who took a good catch considering he was suffering from extreme 'sleep depravation'. Two more batsmen fell without scoring before the other opener Moseley attempted a counter attack, aggressively smashing several boundaries, two over the heads of the slip cordon and a six over long on, however he eventually took a risk too many and was bowled by Richard attempting to drive another four. Two more wickets from Mark in successive deliveries continued the rout, before Ally Hammond replaced Richard, and picked up two wickets in three overs himself. Ally Woodcock came on for Mark to take the last wicket off his fourth delivery, to complete an outstanding bowling and fielding display, with Josh Lennard-Jones contributing with two really good catches also.

With the Chappel batting disposed of in under 2 hours, the players walked into the pavilion to be met by one of the best teas seen at the Green this season, a small mountain of food, courtesy of Mark’s Mum, covered the Pool table. However the players rose to the occasion admirably, with only a few scraps left over by the end of the match.

The Green had 70 overs to score 92 runs, but low totals can often be tricky to chase, and a few alarm bells started to ring when Chappel opened with a spinner at one end and dismissed both opening batsmen, Luke and Josh, for not many. Stephen Nunn and Ollie Firmin steadied the ship, knowing that overs were on their side they calmly proceeded towards the target before Stephen was bowled by Henry Carter for 22. Ollie continued to show what a good batsman he is by top scoring with an unbeaten 42, with Richard Polley supporting Ollie with 16. Two late wickets made the final score look a bit closer than it really was, but this was an excellent win to go with the excellent tea.
