Great Bentley v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 26 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets

Match report Eight Ash Green completed a comfortable 7 wicket win over Great Bentley having bowled them out for 74.

Opening the bowling, Stephen Nunn and Ollie Firmin managed to restrict Bentley’s scoring opportunities but didn’t break the opening partnership until the penultimate ball of Ollie’s last over in the spell. This wicket signalled the start of the collapse with Tom Weightman entering the attack and taking his first wicket after only 3 balls, with Kevin Smith taking the catch behind. From the other end, Tom Aston also contributed with a wicket in his first over, luring the batsman into edging the ball to Richard Polley who took a trademark slip catch. This meant that there successive wickets in 3 consecutive overs and it was Tom Weightman who struck again 2 overs later, dismissing 2 Bentley batsman in a double wicket maiden over. In similar circumstances to the previous two wickets, Will Shearman was on hand at 2nd slip to dive quickly to his right to take a superb catch. Two balls later, Polley was again in the right place to dismiss the new batsman for no score. This left Bentley struggling at 31-5 off 17 overs and the Green feeling positive they could chase an easy target.
The Bentley batsman steadied their innings slightly after this quick loss of wickets but could only manage a 20 run partnership before Matt Norris held on to a catch off Tom Aston’s bowling.
Desperate to make a healthier looking total, the Bentley batsman took risks with their running and were punished when Weightman threw the ball back in to run out the no.8 batsman. Once Aston and Weightman had finished their 10 overs, Firmin and Nunn returned to the attack. In his first over, Nunn bowled both remaining batsmen to leave Eight Ash Green feeling confident they could knock off the runs.
The Green’s fielding performance was excellent with catches being held and good ground fielding making runs difficult to come by. This was emphasised by Kevin Smith’s enthusiastic stumping attempts which drew parallels with another wicket keeping display: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L-hN84mTQ8 (Skip to 7.04!)

James Warner and Luke Keeble opened the batting for the Green but James was dismissed early as he played on. Matt Norris and Tony Lee followed with the score on 34 and it was left to Luke and Will to complete a 7 wicket victory inside 17 overs.
