Great Totham v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Sunday T30 XI on Sun 19 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Eight Ash Green cruised to victory against Great Totham after bowling them out for 133.
The Green lost the toss and were put in to field, a decision which worked to their advantage as Nippy and Stephen Nunn made early inroads into the Totham batting order. Totham built from the early dismissals, putting on a 50 partnership before the remaining opening batsman skied Richard Polley’s delivery. Tom Aston stated his claim by sprinting towards it and as it looked increasingly unlikely, he dived to take an excellent catch, one that is unlikely to be bettered this season. Wickets fell at regular intervals with an LBW appeal a piece given for Nippy and Polley. But the star of the Eight Ash Green bowling attack was young spinner Matt Murray who whittled through the Great Totham tail enders, finishing with figures 4-15 off 5 overs. Ollie Firmin took the final wicket in the 38th over giving Eight Ash Green an additional 6 overs to knock off the required runs.
The Green opened with Richard Polley and Stephen Nunn who found it difficult to score the boundaries on the slow outfield, relying on singles and the extras they picked up. They put on a partnership of 40 before Nunn middled a shot straight to the fielder on the square leg boundary for 17. This was to be the only wicket the Green lost as Ollie Firmin took to the crease with Polley for the remainder of the match. Boundaries were still hard to come by meaning the batsmen could not take advantage of loose deliveries often enough. However, Polley got his 50 which included 5 4’s and 1 6 off 76 balls and Ollie also was able to contribute a 6 of his own. The pair guided Eight Ash Green to victory with a partnership of 94, Richard Polley finishing on 63* and Ollie Firmin on 30*.
