Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) v Bury on Sat 23 Apr 2011 at 1pm
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Won by 153 runs
Match report
EAG V Bury St Edmunds
The Academy XI got their campaign off to a winning start, beating Bury by 153 runs. The Green batted first with openers, Will Shearman and Luke Keeble being dismissed within the first 4 overs, Luke was run out by an impressive direct hit from a Bury youngster.
Richard Polley steadied the ship along with Tom Aston putting on 37. Then James Warner played a match winning innings of 120* off 108 balls, batting steadily at first before accelerating to complete his hundred in the 43rd over, scoring 15 4’s and 3 6’s. Paul Johnson also played a supporting role to James’s ton in the final overs with an unbeaten 31, spoiling the Bury bowling figures and lifting the Greens innings to 257-4 after the 45 overs.
The Green also started brightly in the field restricting Bury’s run rate and making early inroads with a stunning slip catch from Richard Polley off Giorgio’s bowling which drew gasps from the increasingly large crowd, mainly concerned whether he’d make it back up. Giorgio struck again on the next ball and went on to take 3-12. Other wickets came from Tom Aston, Matt Norris, Richard Polley and blast from the past Ollie Firmin. The young Bury side were all out for 104 providing the Academy with maximum points.
