Coggeshall III v Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Two Counties 1st XI (Saturday) on Sat 01 May 2010 at
Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 9 runs
Match report
The Academy XI came close to winning their first game of the season, marginally missing out by 9 runs. Coggeshall, batting first started brightly scoring and threatening a large total. Keith Steel and Stephen Nunn removed both openers and pegged back the scoring rate, Keith going on the bowl 15 overs returning 3-48. Wickets fell regularly as David Merriday raced through his overs and took 3 – 44, with fielding tight; Tom Lissimore producing a run out and most catches (Asbo!) held, youngsters Richard Nunn and Matt Murray being particularly impressive helping to halt the run rate. Coggeshall were dismissed in last over for 156, and the Green had difficulty in scoring when their reply started with the Coggeshall opening pair not giving anything away. Danny Guy was the pick of the early batsman with a quickfire 30, 28 coming from boundaries, but the Green were 83 for 7 and the target was a long way off. Then the 8th wicket pair of Stephen Nunn and Keith Steel put on 49 to take the Green close, but then lost Steely (24) and Matt Murray and were 9 runs short at the end. Stephen Nunn finished with 34 not out and without this tremendous effort the Green would have not as close as they did. Onwards and upwards for the Academy!!
