Eight Ash Green Cricket Club Lost by 19 runs

Match report On another extremely warm & sunny day playing on another parched outfield. Halstead won the toss and decided to bat.

Eight Ash Green found it hard to contain Halstead's scoring. But were not helped by Connor Amos who dropped a simple catch off Ethan Wyatt bowling spin, with the last ball of the 20th over before the drinks break and again the very first ball after the drinks break in the same position off at silly mid off Thomas Riley.

But then in the 29th over bowled by Kaydan Jayasena who had bowled a lot of short balls which had been pulled away to the boundary got his line and length just right to take a hat trick with the first 3 balls of the over. On the hat trick ball everyone came in close and the batsman pushed forward but pushed the ball into Henry Warner's hands fielding a forward short leg. We were all cock-a-hoop, but the bewildering thing was when we got into the changing rooms and discussing the hat trick with Kaydan, had not realised he had taken a hat trick.

The Eight Ash Green innings started slowing, but with Ethan Wyatt coming in at number 5 he soon upped the scoring rate and with Hansana now getting in to his stride as well the scoring rate improved. When Hansana retired on 52, this then brought in Thomas Riley who likes to play only one way and he took 20 runs plus a wide from the 20th over. Thomas was then caught for a free flowing 36 runs. Ethan continued to 53 retired, with 3 trademark 6's. Mark Howson 15 runs and Kris Ratnayake 19 runs also contributed breezy innings and Finley Barnard with the 1 ball he faced played an exquisite square drive for 4 to end our innings and lose by 19 runs in an valiant run chase. With once again 10 more wides/no balls than the opposition, plus the runs they would of got from the extra balls that is what probably proved the difference. Despite us losing there were a number of positives to take from a very high scoring match.
